What Causes Tsunamis
what is el nino ?
With severe abnormal weather conditions facing the whole world with some parts facing drought, wild fires, while other facing immense rain fall, floods, we describe here “EL NINO event” which is the main cause behind the unusual climate.
Before we describe El Nino, we explain to you La Nina event, which is the physical phenomenon occurring on the equatorial and tropical pacific ocean.
Pacific, being the largest of all oceans in the world, neighbors with north and south America ( USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Peru) on its eastern side; while Asia pacific countries( Indonesia, China, Japan, Malaysia) and Australia on its western side. Thus, any physical changes occurring on the ocean can severely impact the weather conditions in adjacent countries.
In normal circumstances, on average, western pacific is warmer than its eastern counterpart and the wind blow is directed from east to west. Now what happens is; there is a huge amount of evaporation from the western side, which creates a low pressure system in the lower atmosphere there as compared to the eastern side.
According to laws of nature, whenever there is an imbalance in a pressure system, air from the region of higher pressure flows to the lower pressure one, until the balance is maintained.
The same thing happens above the Pacific ocean, dry winds flow east to west, with already present moist air in the west rising upwards. The vacuum left by the easterly trade winds, up on the eastern Pacific side, is filled by the westerly winds blowing downwards from the atmosphere towards the sea, creating a high pressure system.
Furthermore, in normal east-west winds, the tilt of warm waters above the ocean is towards the western side while the eastern side faces cold upwelling nutrient rich water with lots of fish.
