Japanese robotics manufacturer, Soft bank corporation, has unleashed it’s new emotional robot named, Pepper. Based on artificially intelligent cloud system, Peeper can talk with people just as you talk with your buddies.
According to the manufacturer’s Chief executive Sayoshi son, it can read your emotions and respond accordingly. Robots are generally believed to be sense-less machines, but this invention has clearly changed the purpose humanoids are used for.
Soft bank, in collaboration with FOX conn, and Ali baba, a chinese retailer, is planning to sell 1000 pieces each month for 200,000 yen ($1400) each. No date has yet been given about it’s launch outside the country.

In japan, where a huge percentage of population is ageing and with a fall in birth rate, citizens from all walks of life are in a dire need of such people friendly machines. On one hand, old-aged persons need a partner assisting them in day to day tasks at home, on the other hand, firms require cheap mechanical labor due to high wage rate in the market. That’s the reason, Japan has the world’s biggest robotics market , worth billions of Yen.
Japanese car-maker, Toyota and electronics giant, Panasonic ,are also in the race for intelligent robots. Just last year, Toyota made Asino, played soccer with President Obama on his foreign trip to Tokyo.
Analysts believe, even if the robot is pre-programmed with a fixed amount of tasks, it could have a great impact on the elderly peoples’ life. In addition, use of these machines could assist paralyzed citizens too.
According to analysts, the price set for the product is too cheap, even less than the manufacturing cost, which could hamper the profitability of the company. Soft bank, instead, is hoping to earn from the app making functionality on the robot it provides to the users. Around 100 default apps will already be available for download at the launch. It remains to be seen in the future, whether app makers are interested enough in app development to let the company accomplish its plans.
Critics, however, are of the view that the human friendly gestures of Pepper are being much hyped about. It is not that simple as being claimed!
